Can you say HeliCoil?  I thought you could.  Drill and tap the
manifold with the special HeliCoil tools, install the replacement
thread and you will be on your way!

Did the shop who skimmed your head check the valves?  I would think
they should have, or did they only do the skim cut?

Good luck!  15 miles would be something of an impediment.
