The other advantages of the GM conversion...
I've been using my spitfire for some long trips (400 miles in a
day) this summer. On the last one, approx 125 miles from home on
a Saturday night, the red ignition light suddenly brightly glowed.
I got off the interstate at the next exit where I thought I remembered
seeing an AutoZone parts store.
The guy behind the counter almost choked when he saw what kind of
car I had, but I told him not to worry, it had a GM alternator.
(I did the conversion with a used alternator about 2 years ago.)
But he still needed to know what year and make it came out of
and I had no idea, so I told him a 1978 Monte Carlo. He punched
it in and said "sorry, but all we have is a 6 cylinder model".
I forget, please remind me why number of cylinders matters ;-)
He pulled it off the shelf, it was a perfect match and best of
all it was $26.99. He checked the lucas model just for fun - it
would have taken a least a day to come in and it was $65.
Less than a half hour, I was on my way again....
