Distributor Black Box

Somewhere, sometime, long ago (far, far away ?), I remember reading about
repairing the distributor "black box" found on the later Spitfires. That the
electronics inside the box were replaceable with a GM HEI module. Any help
finding the info would be appreciated. Or am I having yet ANOTHER senior
moment ?  :-)
