That's what I want to hear - The differance is about $300 dollars! That'll
buy a compressor? Mig Welder? New seat Foams? And I'm thinking - that is
partly why I bought the car - for the experience. The schematics showing
all of the parts sure look scary though!

I have done a rebuild on a couple of different 3-rails. It is quite doable,
But you must follow the directions very carefully, and avoid the temptation
to bash something that doesn't want to do what it's supposed to.

The transmission goes together like a brain-teaser puzzle. To remove any
one internal part
usually means that the entire thing has to come apart. If you forget some
part and
you discover your mistake after the unit is reassembled (or even worse, back
in the car!)
you will be very pissed off.

Never re-use the main snap ring! Buy two replacements in case you mess up
one.
And do not try to do it without good snap ring pliers and some brass drifts.

The Haynes book has pretty good directions and photos, and tells you
how to do things when you do not have special tool QXZ-34432.

Good Luck,

Doug Braun
