door window seal question

I am ready to put on the rubber seal for the window on both doors (not the
furflex piece).  It is cut to length, so I need to know how long to make it.
I know it goes all the way up and under the windshield trimcap, but how far
down do i take it?  Does it go down just to the base of the window, or
continue on to help seal the top of the door?  Any help would be greatly
appreciated.
