Hi James,
My General preMOT test goes.
1)Check things that are easy to fix.
all lights, wipers, washers, horn, seatbelts,
All rubber items, tyres, trackrod ends, steering rack boots, brakelines, for
cracking, chaffing
2) Check the four corners, by jacking up the car.
Looking for binding brakes, push and pull the wheel to see if there is any
movement in the bearings, suspension joints.
Check for leaking shocks.
On the rear pull the hand brake and check it works on BOTH wheels.
3) look under the car.
Check for corrosion (Holes in the floor, sills and front outriggers)
Check the exhaust isn't blowing, and the straps arn't broken.
And thats a bout it.
A book detailing the full test is available from and HMSO bookshop or the
library.
Good luck
Tim
PS remember to do the wheel nuts up tight. I once failed on one loose wheel nut!
