Spitted ones,
My wife and I were headed for a concert yesterday evening,
and since the weather was so nice here in southeast Michigan,
we decided to take the Spit. I even decided to take the longer
more sportscar friendly route around one of the many lakes.
About 8 miles into the 13 mile drive, I heard a sound from
the left rear that sounded like driving over a close series
of expansion strips. Except that there were no expansion
strips that close. I checked the mirror for a low tire, but
couldn't see anything so started to move to the shoulder
to pull off the road when the tire went flat. Pulled into
a parking lot and hopped out. Opened the boot to find that
1. the spare didn't have enough air to support the car and
2. the jack that I have been carrying around was so stiff
that it wouldn't turn.
Good thing I had my trusty AAA card and the cell phone.
Twenty-five minutes later, the spare had air and was on
the car. Great response from the garage.
Concert was great, we only missed about 20 minutes.
Lessons learned: 1. check the spare for air regularly.
2. run the jack from one end to the other at least once
a year to ensure that it works. 3. Like the American
Express card, don't leave home without the AAA card and
the cell phone.
BTW, Fix-A-Flat wouldn't have done any good, when I got the
tire off the car, I could see the cause of the flat, there
was cord showing on the inside edge. Also not good.
Cheers,
Doug
