If, as Mike said, the image is clearly marked as Copyright, then you can be
sure it is copyrighted. As Fred said, there are plenty of photos in the
world that are not copyrighted, but if someone has paid to copyright a
particular image then they could object to its unauthorised use.
However, Mike mentioned that the copyright mentioned 1978. Copyrights have
a time limit on them - I have no idea what the limit is, but it might have
expired by now?
