Tim,
Your parts man is correct. Unless you wish to convert to DOT 5, in which case
now would be the perfect time to do it. Just bear in mind that you will need
to flush the lines with denatured alcohol first, and air them out until dry.
I would also highly advise replacing the seals in your slave cylinder at the
same time with a rebuild kit. DOT 4 is the original spec for Girling
components and if you're in a hurry and don't mind risking damage to your
paint at a future date (depending on your finish and the condition of your
paint to begin with) then just go ahead and stick with DOT 4. But whatever
you do, never EVER use DOT 3. Your seals won't last very long.

I am installing a new clutch master cylinder today. The parts guy said
that only DOT 4 girling fluid should be used in a girling system. Is that
so? If so, is it not better to go on to DOT 5?
