                Upon further review, it turns out my DPO really was "D".
Evidentally it's correct for there to be voltage on the slate/white wire
going to the coil...however, it is not correct to be only 3v, it should
be 6-7v . And, it certainly isn't correct to leave the old Lucas amp on
the dist. connected, which was the cause of both the low voltage on the
tach wire, and the cause of the engine dying when said tach wire is
connected to the coil. The tach reads what it should ( or at least, it
matches the multimeter's reading of the RPMs...). So, I guess i'll go
drive my $400 spitfire (which my neighbor offered me $1500 for not long
ago...) I just love DPOs

p.s. still don't truly understand how the elec. tach does it's job, but,
I do know enough to disconnect things when the instructions say to...
