I also met Pete at the show, and purchased a blank for my Spitfire.
He is no locksmith. This key business is a sideline hobby he got into
by virtue of buying a bunch of keys and a hand cutter, at an auction
I believe. He cuts on his machine by the numbers, because that is
the only think his machine will do. He does not have a regular
copy cutter, and does not do this type of work. I specifically learned
the latter because I wanted my old key copied, and he couldn't do it.
I'm not at all surprised that he simply wants to take a good copy and
run over to the hardware store and have a duplicate made of it for
you. I've used a hand machine before, and they are a god awful
thing to work. Using a copy cutter is far faster, easier, and often
times more accurate.
