Stumble on acceleration

I have a '71 with single carb.  Has run well, if not screamingly fast.  
Recently, i picked up a stumble/hesitation the continues when under partial 
throttle through most of the rpm range.  Sometimes at low rpm, there is an 
obvious miss that seems to clear up and then move into the hesitation mode.
Any thoughts.
