On early cars, there are four u-joints. One on each half shaft
and one at each end of the drive shaft. On the late cars,
there are only three, one on each half shaft and one on the
drive shaft. The Spitfire never had two on each half shaft,
that would have made it a full IRS instead of swing axles.

1980 Spitfire. Probable U-joint problem.
Someone mentioned to me there are SIX u-joints, 2 on each half shaft, 2
on the drive shaft. I've looked in my Haynes and Bentley, and even
climbed under the car. For the life of me, I only see THREE, 1 on each.
Am I blind, or is this person 'not knowledgeable'?
