Steve,
When you say "contamination", are you talking about debris? It could be
coming from sediment in your gas tank itself.
Try installing a clear glass inline fuel filter BEFORE the fuel pump and
also open the fuel pump to clean the filter inside of IT.

After you do this, you should be able to stop your carbs from getting
fouled. But you may want to remove, clean and seal your gas tank if that's
the source of your problem.

Spitsters,
I have a 67 Mk 3 Spitfire which continually (almost continuously) suffers
from contamination in the carburettor float chamber which causes it to
misfire. I have recently changed the fuel line filter to no avail. Of
course the contamination is removed and the car runs well for about 100
miles. Can anyone suggest where the contamination is coming from and a
course of action to cure the problem.
