I think I'd be tempted to glue down a 1/4" layer of foam rubber first and
then a layer of vinyl glued to that. Since the top edge would end at the
window felts and the bottom by the door panel, it should be a fairly clean
installation. The exposed edges at the door jambs could be cleaned up by
simply folding under the last 1/8" or so and gluing it all into place. You
would end up with slightly cushioned door caps. That's what I'll likely do.
