Spitlisters: any advice or opinions on which angle grinder I should buy? I'm
working on the body of my 76, and have made an A post repair panel. Now I
need to cut out the rusty old one. What are the actual advantages of the
different features on these things?
Specifically,
-some have a dish/recess in the disks, others don't: should I care?
I looked at two today, both with dished 4.5 inch blades
-$70. Black and Decker had 5 amps, 10 K rpm, and a switch on the side that
can be locked in the On position with one's thumb
-$119. DeWalt (a badge for B+D I believe), had 7.5 amps, 10K rpm, and a
switch that is actuated by one's palm holding a paddle against the body of
grinder
-both had a handle at 45 degrees to the body of the grinder.
I've also seen a Clarke for $40. but can't remember any specs.
I've never used one of these, so can anyone give me some tips or guidance on
what to look for and why?
Many thanks
Nick Moseley, Delta B.C.
Read on those of you who don't have pressing and possibly riotous plans for
this evening, and would like an update.
78 Spit "Himself" (license plate HMS xxx, formerly Hermes, neither of us
cottoned to the name). Getting ready for summer driving. Wouldn't start.
Checked ignition, had spark. Checked fuel, didn't have any. Replaced fuel
pump with one off an older Spit after swapping actuator arms in the pump.
Success. Fuel vaporization and slow starting, and intermittant cutting out
last summer may have been explained. Went to Lordco and got a new pump...$60
later it will get installed in the next little while. Target is to be
insured and AirCared for Britsh Car week. Installed a brake M/C rebuild kit
over the winter (after a "light" hone, thanks listers for the advice on
that). Haven't installed the M/C yet as I want to use this opportunity to
clean off the rusty bulkhead and repaint it. Its currently around 50 degrees
F, so I'm waiting for warmer weather. (Paint can says room temperature)
76 Spit: sill/rocker panel removed, A post patch panel 95% fabricated. I
bought a whole panel, but am concerned about removing and replacing that
much metal, with that many places to weld it back onto the car. (I have no
body work or welding experience) The repair panel is hoped to require less
skill.
78 Spit: still awaiting chassis replacement. What's really stopped this is
finding a place to get the replacement chassis blasted and painted, and
allocating the funds. Anyone in GVRD give me an idea of where and how much?
I've heard anywhere from $40. to $200.00, with $200. including a coat of
some kind of epoxy based paint.
