Metric bolts are actually near impossible to buy at the hardware store without going to the "special" bolts section where they sell them for about $1 a piece. Most farm supply stores, or Northern equipment stores sell bolts and nuts by the pound (the weight, not the money;) Where I buy mine it's about $2.80 a lb for grade 8 fasteners.
