I presume your problem is with the fitting of the replacement distributor, yes?
What you need to do is remove the distributor extension casting to expose the
drive3 gear running on the camshaft. You will notice that there is an offset
slot hole that engages the distributor. THIS orientation is what determines
where the rotor will point since it fits only one way.
As you withdraw the gear via magnetic means (easiest) you will see that it
rotates ccw until it disengages. What you need to do is move this gear over
one way or the other to correct your problem.
Estimated time, 1 hour for a novice (2 beer?), 1 beer for a gearhead (who then
gets to enjoy #2 with clean hands afterward).
