If you've ever heard of "triple plated chrome" these are what the first two
layers are, the last being the chromium plating. Most shops that do really
good chroming use this process. If you've ever been around the VW or
American V8 scene you will have seen what poor work looks like. Most of the
overseas import chrome dress-up items are not done this way and it really
shows, both in the look of the part and its durability.
