I've been reviewing/repairing/testing my overdrive/back-up lights
circuits in an attempt to regain my non-functioning overdrive. After
cleaning all the connections and replacing the solenoid ground and a couple
of frayed/broken hot wires, everything now tests ok & seems to be working
EXCEPT the gear-lever switch.
When I directly connect the two wires to the gear-lever switch (ignition
ON, 3rd or 4th gear, of course), I get a muted click. Then when I
disconnect those wires, opening the circuit, I hear nothing. Re-connecting
again results in another muted click, etc., etc.
My question: Does this reflect the normal operation of the J-type
solenoids? I.e., a fairly quiet click when it actuates & no sound when it
releases?
(I can't do a road-test now because my interior is temporarily gutted out
(read NO SEATS).)
