Doug,
Thanks for the reply
It may very well be I have used the wrong type, and that the MK4 Spitfire
doesn't have this particular valve as standard equipment. I had just
assumed that I replaced it with the original type so many years ago.
However I do need that type that closes when you "push" the cable. I don't
have the original controls that the car came with and just use a "choke"
cable to control the heater operation. Basically, I would like the knob to
be "in" when the heater is off -
Maybe a little clarification on my part is in order. In my application,
the original MK4 bulkhead sheet metal valve mounting bracket is used which
slips under the coil mounting bracket, but the water outlet to the block
points downward, and the valve body points upward (aka GT6 style) BUT with
the cable entering the left hand side forward of the body (as viewed
sitting in the car of course), and rotation as noted i.e when you push the
cable, it closes the valve. Therein lies most of the confusion. Had I
kept better records many years ago I wouldn't have to ask the list for
silly things like this, but I suppose it keeps a fee people busy during the
cold winter months :-)??
Part of the problem lies in that the basic body is used for MANY different
applications and can be interchanged with the different bases providing for
many different configurations. But to compound things even more, there are
also variations on which way the operation of the valve lever itself is -
So I guess what I REALLY need to know is what model/year vehicle do I need
to specify to replace this particular valve!
