To start we need three things:
Compression.
Fuel.
Ignition.
Unless something catastrophic happened while the car was sitting, it's
highly unlikely the compression was compromised. That would be much
noisier while the engine was running last. So that is probably out of the
mix.
Fuel. Ah, now this is the very likely culprit. Check and verify you
are
getting fuel to the fuel bowl by disconnecting the fuel line and cranking
the engine over (disconnect the negative coil wire first!). If you have
fuel there, then it's a matter of getting it to the cylinders. Crank the
engine over again and smell for gas at the carb throat. Is the choke
closed? If the choke is closed, it limits air flow but increases fuel in
the fuel/air mixture which is needed for a cold engine. If you have an
intake leak of severe enough proportions, then it won't start period. Spray
some starting fluid into the throat and crank it over (with the coil
connected again). If it pops and sputters, then you know definately it's
the fuel system and that it isn't getting enough fuel- meaning too much
air, not enough fuel. It's hard to find leaks when the engine isn't
running though.
Ignition. You've confirmed you're getting spark to the plugs, so that
is
out. Timing could be an issue, but again, only if something catastrophic
happened before the engine was shut down. Reset the timing to 6 degrees
before top dead center anyways just in case. You can do that without the
engine running though.
