Sometime last year a kind lister posted the actual lengths of the various
drive shafts... I'm searching to see if I can find it before I have to sign
off.

The short answer to the original question is:  No.

I did get lucky 10 years ago when my D-type o/d gave up the ghost and the
only replacement available was a single rail non-o/d trans.  Yup, same
length.  Newbies luck.
