Hi,
Thanks to all who have responded regarding my recent engine
failure. I have tracked down a second-hand unit from a Hearald. The
engine has been out of the car for around a year, but apparently
was running prior to it's removal.
I'd like to know what I should/can check with the engine out of the
car. I can check that the crank is free, and probably can get an
idea of endfloat, but what else should I look for. Would a
compression test be possible without the starter and oil in the
motor? Anthing I can check with the head (I'm not too worried
about this as I can always fit the head off my spit (MkII)).
I believe the engines are identical apart from the cam, and possibly
compression ratio, but is there anything else I should be aware of?
Thanks for the advice,
David
