Ken, I have a pair of HS4 that I plan on rebuilding and have the kit for them.
Since the carbs were orininally waxstat they had been previously converted to
the eraly style jets. Enough of this but the interesting thing I noticed is
that they are marked by means of a white or black band round the spiral of the
jet feed line. Apart from being mirror images for the fitting this is the only
other means of identification. Nothing about these coloured band is mentioned
in the documentation I have. Assuming that your HS2 are similar then you may
also have the bands. Also with the physical differences (mirror image) you
can't really get it wrong anyway.

Subject: SU jets question
Friends -
I have a '72 MkIV that has twin SU carbs installed,
allegedly from a '70 model. They are impossible to
tune and I'm thinking that the jets are incorrectly
installed.
Fortunately, the DPO left a couple carb rebuild kits
in the trunk - but no indication of which goes on
the front and which goes on the rear. They are just
in boxes that say "Lucas rebuild kit" (yep, Lucas).
Using a pin gauge, I've discovered that the jet hole
(where the needle goes after it's all assembled) is
smaller on one than the other. Does the smaller jet
go on the rear, or the front?
Thanks for any help,
Ken Strayhorn
