Hi all-
I just got back from TRF's summer party last evening. It was a
wonderful weekend, but I had a few problems with the car. During the
journey there, the car started hesitating, backfiring profusely from
carbs and exhaust, and refused to start up again after stalling while
pulling into a gas station. Come to find out, the screw to the
condenser had popped out. Well, every hundred miles or so after this
problem occured, the car would start backfiring and hesitating again.
When I checked everything out, I noticed that the points were
completely closed, even when on the lobe of the distributor. I
adjusted them as best as could with the old matchbook trick. Sure
enough, the points would end up closed again after some driving. Has
anyone ever heard of this problem? I do know there is some distributor
wobble, but could it be that bad as to shake the points out of
adjustment? Needless to say, I forgot the flashlight and this happened
last night on the final leg of my journey back to MA. AAA Plus is a
wonderful thing!
