A GT6 coil puts out 6 pulses every two crankshaft revolutions (one
complete intake-compression-power-exhaust cycle) or three pulses every
revolution, right?
And the Smiths tach receives those pulses and somehow displays the RPM
as 1/3 of the pulses it receives, right? E.g., when it receives 3000
pulses per minute, it displays 1000 rpm.
Now if a V8 engine is substituted in the GT6, its coil will be pulsing
FOUR times per revolution (8 per two revolutions).
Won't the GT6 tach still divide by three? So when the tach reads 4000
rpm, the V8 engine would really only be doing 3000 rpm?
Some tachs have a 4-6-8 cylinder switch, but I don't think the Smiths
does.
