I see tachs go at flea markets and sway meets for under $20 regularly and
frequently. At that price, I doubt it's all that worthwhile to attempt tearing
down a tach to clean it up. It's pretty easy to end up with a tach that's
worse then what you started with.
But, I would certainly try it, especially if I've replaced it with a good
working unit, and now simply have a defective spare. Then there's nothing to
lose by trying.

Would it make sense to take the tach apart and clean it out? Is it
