Your choke is a handy diagnostic tool. If the engine momentarily recovers with
the application of the choke, you've pretty well located the problem as being
in the fuel circuit, and more specifically, low fuel in the bowl. This works
best as the engine is fading, not when it has completely faded away.
Carefull (thoughtfull) applications of the ignition switch while still rolling
will also be usefull.
The fuel pump should click when the key is turned on and the engine is not
running How much it clicks is the important tool. Assuming you've got a
standard inline pump with no pressure return line, the pump should click a few
times rapidly to bring line pressure up, and then slow way down maintaining
pressure. If it clicks rapidly for an extended period of time, it's filling
the fuel bowl.
Before you just blame the pump, I'd suggest checking the upline circuitry for
continuity problems.
