Rear suspension spring

Hi,  I've been on this list for quite sometime now whilst I'm rebuilding a 1967
Mk3.
Last night I fitted the rear spring and noticed the Haynes manual mentioned a
'front' marking on the spring.  I've tried, but I can't find any marks, can
anyone help either tell me where the marks are - or tell me how to identify the
'front' of the spring.
