Steve, Just a thought here. What if the advance mechanism in the distributer
has gone (or started going). Then the timing would be gone at speed and could
get progressively worse. I would expect this to affect the power etc.

This morning my '71 is running along just fine. Not a ton of power, but runs
up to 5000 rpm briskly. All of a sudden it will only go to 4000 rpm. It
does not miss or sputter, just runs smoothly at 4k and still has normal pep
until 4k is neared. Then the power starts to fade and it will now only get
to 3000 rpm and not all that energetically. Life signs all appear normal, ie
temperature and oil pressure (40psi).
The throttle cable seems to be working ok. No strange noises.
What could this be?
