Hi, Joe.

Bentley is completely silent on the subject -- except to say "no user
serviceable parts inside" (the actual words are "NOTE: The sliding
joint should not be dismantled for any reason." p. 2-404, last
sentence in paragraph "Re-assembly")

Want a copy of the Autobook pages? two pages, tiff-G4, 507 kb.
Actually there is a good photo in there of the rollers in place. I
don't know how authoritative this book is, but it makes sense to me.
Not much rolling while in action, the rollers are more to enable ease
of assembly without the precision required of splining the shaft.
Grinding square grooves is MUCH easier than hobbing or broaching
involute splines, and without involute splines, the thing would never
center properly unless extremely tight tolerances were obtained in the
factories. And by alternating the rollers, each groove carries equal
torque in accel and decel directions. Or maybe I'm gullible.

Donald.
