One of the local restoration shops in the Minneapolis area has a system like
this. Not sure if it is from the same manufacturer. Anyway, I've seen it
used, it was REALLY cool. They were working on a TR3 tank that looked like
Swiss cheese along the bottom. It had been sandblasted, and the repair took
about 5 minutes. All of the holes were filled in. I'm guessing he put
about .030" of metal on. He ground the surface smooth and it was done.
They were using a zinc alloy so it was rust proofed too. I had a copy of
the price list. They charge $80 per hour for repairs, and $8 per square
foot for rust proofing. If they can get to both sides of a panel they claim
that it will last 30 years in normal use. If anyone has watched cars rust
in Minnesota's well seasoned salt fest of a winter, this would be
impressive.
The name of the shop is Rods and Restos. I've lost the phone number and the
web address, but if someone really wants it, I'll look it up.

This is listed in "Old Car Weekly" and I quote from the article
"Rustbusters"wire feed spray welder allows the shop to repair rusted areas
faster than cutting a panel out and welding a new one in. No bondo,
fiberglass, or patch panels, By spraying pure metal onto the sandblasted
areas, rust holes are filled in, while the surrounding area is galvanized.
The metal bonds mechanically to cars body at 40,00 lbs. PSI, and can be
applied as fine as one thousandth of an inch to one foot thick, the method
can be used anywhere metal rusts.

This should be a big help for the restorer if the price is allowable. "FT"
