Yesterday, I posted my story about ordering what I had every right to
believe was a light stained OEM style facia replacement for my '67 Mk3 from
Rimmer Bros. What I got was a black walnut version that has nice grain
character, but a very dark stain that simply doesn't look anything like the
original dash or the ones pictured in the current Rimmer Bros. catalog.
Adding insult to injury, they overcharged me for shipping and did not
include the 10 pound "new customer discount" when I inquired about how to
redeem the voucher I had received in the mail. They were supposed to
deduct it from the total. Instead, the added 10 pounds shipping (about $16
U.S. for an additional two items that added less than 1lb to the weight of
the package.
It's been 48 hours and Rimmer Bros. have not responded to two e-mails I have
sent alerting them of the discrepancies. This is no way to impress a new
customer with the passion, determination and (most important to them) funds
that I have to restore my Spitfire. As a matter of fact, you could say that
I'm "royally pissed".
I think that this dash facia might look swell in an early Spit with a tan
interior, or for someone who digs dark burl walnut, but it's NOT what I
expected and I'm not going to keep it. Rather than incur the expense of
returning it to a company that seems to care not about my concerns (who
knows if they would even issue a refund!), I'm putting it up for sale. If
anyone on the list is interested, I'll sell it for $85 plus shipping
anywhere in the U.S. Brand new, never installed. If no one here is
interested, I'll probably load it up on eBay. I'll be happy to e-mail a
photo to anyone who might be interested.
Cheers,
Jeff in San Diego
