So, there I was, the car off the road for 6 months, and having put a lot of
time last week into preparing for the big re-assembly of the leaf spring,
axles, bearings, shocks - the whole lot. I spent all day Saturday toiling in
the cold and dry (for once) and looking forward to driving the car later
this week (special occasion). Anyway, I've replaced almost everything but
for the inner hub and the outer drive flange, including the inner drive
flange, UJs, half shafts. I am never going to do this again. So it takes a
bit of time, grunting and some unrepeatable language to get the radius arm,
vertical link, leaf spring and shock all bolted together on the RHS. Then
under the back of the car to bolt the flange to the differential.
*"$%*&!!!!! My parts supplier, maybe four months ago, had sent me flanges
for the prop shaft not the drive shaft, but I hadn't noticed and pressed the
UJs together on both sides, and rebuilt the rest of the axles. OK - so I
gave up in disgust.
So - How can I extract the UJs from the flanges and half-shafts? Can I do it
and keep them, or should I get new ones anyway!
While trying to get the bolt through the top part of the shock, through a
new poly bushing, I had huge problems. Is there some easy way of pushing
that bolt through a new bushing without removing the whole body?
Maybe next weekend will be better - I'm getting the inner flanges from a
different supplier this week.
Regards,
Aidan
