As I perceive it, the new club is apart from this list. We only seek to
have gatherings on this side of the pond. Exclusivity is not part of the
program. Nothing, in the formation of this North American Spitfire
Squadron, should take away from, or exclude anyone from this most
extraordinary list. I can remember back to the "Wilderness Years" over
here...no dealers, no (well very few) parts suppliers, no information, no
fellow owners, no clubs...you were alone. All the more so for Spitfire
owners in the USA.
I agree with both you and Graham...we don't leave the list and we don't
monopolize it with club business.
Speaking of List Dangers: I belong to a list of Expedition owners. In the
early years (1997-99) it was very informative and useful. Several
knowledgeable members provided technical info for the vehicles and
"procedural" info on dealers, etc. Unfortunately, it has deteriorated into
"Why my Expedition is better than the other SUV's in the world" and " Hey,
does the new 2000 model have a sunroof option?" Useless discussions and
information that is easily obtained elsewhere dominate the subject lines. I
realize that the two vehicles and owners (in most cases) are very different
but it does point to the fact that a list can degenerate into subgroups. I
don't want that here.
