Greetings:
I have kind of a dilemma. I just received 2 D-type overdrives in a very nice
transaction with Steve Bridge from South Dakota. One OD is complete, but in
parts and needs new O-rings, seals, bearings, etc. The other has been
rebuilt and its gearbox rebuilt as well. Here's the problem: I never did
bother to ask Steve what kind of gearbox was attached to the OD (nobody's
perfect). It turns out to be a GT6 (with alloy bell housing). Well, I'm
working on Spitfires! Fortunately, the GT6 OD mainshaft and the OD mainshaft
of a 3-rail 1500 Spit(73-74) are the same. I have 2 extra 1500 3-rails and
can transfer the OD without much trouble.
The projects I'm working on are:
1) 63 Spit with the disassembled D type to be installed.
2) 73 1500 all original Spit with D-type and 3-rail box
3) 1500 Spit utilizing every conceivable accessory, modification, that I deem
appropriate including a J-type I bought last month.
4) Possibly a Mk3 1970 "Bullseye Badge" Spitfire
I can switch the D-type to 3-rail Spit and sell the GT6 box, or I can sell
the whole thing OD included, and buy another D-Type on a Spitbox. Are there
any offers for the rebuilt GT6 box? Any REASONABLE offers for it with the OD
still aboard?
I'm going to be selling some other stuff at the Chicago parts show in
February if anyone is interested. Mainly extra Mk1-3 Spit stuff, especially
3 extra good early non-OD transmissions.
