Reid hit it right on the nail head...
23+ years ago growing up all my friends were into big
muscle cars and use to kid me a lot about my 'wimpy 94 cubic inches'
.... that was until a 427 SS 'maro lost his pink slip to me on a ten
mile race home! He was nearly a mile ahead of me
until we hit the back roads. I passed him on the inside
of a hairpin at nearly 50mph when he was doing 35 with his tires
squealing and smoking.
I did sell it back to him... made him stand up in a busy pizza parlor
and announce (yell out ) his ignorance to all the other motor head jocks.
He also lost his girl friend to me that evening :-)

Of course all the HP and good handling in the world is wasted unless the
driver knows what he/she is doing. I've got a lot of "notches on my dash"
representing cars I have gobbled up with my Spitfire on "twisty, turny
roads", and this includes a lot of Porsches, BMWs, and Corvettes whose
yuppie-like drivers had no clue as to what they were doing behind the wheel.
(One hapless 'vette pilot nearly spit his car in two when a tree jumped out
in front of him.) In a straight line I would be hesitant to race anything
much faster than a 90 year old in a wheel chair, but throw in a lot of
twists and turns and I'll get 'em every time.

Laura, I hate to burst your bubble, but the latest edition of Motor
Trend says the New MR2 has 138 HP at 6400 rpm and weight a mere 2200
pounds. True, a bit more than the Spit but with the twin cams, 16
valves and Sequential EFI, I wouldn't be putting any large sums on Nigel
being able to out perform it (Unless of course you have recently
installed a bottle of laughing gas recently)
regards,
Joe
