Craig:
Chris is correct about the voltage stabilizer on the speedo. Also the wire
from the headlight switch should go to the blue light on the speedo unit
that informs you when the high beams are on. This should have a bulb
attached. Another should go to the ignition system that tells you whether
the charging system is working. This is the red light in the Speedo; the
bulb should be attached. Lastly the speedo illumination should be a red and
white wire with a bulb attached.
Sorry I can't give you the color codes since I am in China. I am doing this
from memory but I have rewired at least 10 Spits using the Haynes manual
wiring schematics. It is possible if you take the time to follow the
diagrams.
