Your best source of information on the original build of the car is
probably the British Motor Heritage Centre. This is an organisation set
up and owned by Rover Group (what was once Austin Rover, previously BL,
previously British Leyland, previously BMC etc.) to preserve everything
to do with the various cars once produced by the various companies
swallowed up by British Leyland (i.e. Triumph, Austin, Morris, MG,
Rover, Land Rover, Wolseley, Austin Healey, Riley - any more?). They
can provide a certificate showing when a particular car was built, with
chassis and engine numbers (I believe).
