I used to own a '67 Spitfire Mk3 that I was fortunate enough to buy from the
original owner -- my sister -- in 1976. It was my first car. Two years, a
clutch and a transmission rebuild later, I was forced to sell it because the
gears were going bad again and I simply couldn't afford to sink anymore
money into fixing the car again. I was 18 and earning $650 a month. Now
that I'm about to turn 40 in January and my mid-life crisis is in full
swing, I yearn to harken back to the time when I felt the thrill of the wind
rushing through my hair on a warm summer evening. I can actually afford to
maintain a Spitfire now, and I have the time to tinker with it. I also have
a very understanding wife and three kids who are urging me to "go for it".
So, with this humble introduction, if any of you are willing to part with
your Mk3, please e-mail me and let me know.
I'm willing to pay a fair price that's commensurate with the condition of
the car. If you've been fastidious about the care and feeding of your Mk3,
and are considering selling it before something else goes wrong with it,
rest assured that I'm exactly the guy you'll be able to feel good selling
your car to. It will never be driven in the rain or parked outside; driven
on weekends or sunny mild days only and parked inside my garage where it
will be waxed and preened on a regular basis.
While I prefer the center-mounted dash cluster with the walnut facia
(nostalgia at play, no doubt), I'll also consider '69 and '70 models also.
Must have a rust free, straight frame, straight rust-free body and in
mechanically good condition. Costmetics aren't crucial, but I'd like for
the car to be in as "original" condition both mechanically and appearance as
possible. I live in San Diego, CA but if you have the car that I'm looking
for, I'll gladly pay to ship it here.
Please forgive me in advance if "wanted" ads are unwelcome here. I'm new to
this list and simply trying to become a member of the Triumph club again
after so many years of driving boring, reliable cars. I want to have fun
again. Only this time, I could do without my front wheel falling off on the
freeway offramp because the splines on the wire wheel hub wore down.
