Craig et al,

My understanding of this (which comes mainly from John Kipping's literature) is
that after using leaded petrol for about 60,000 miles the valve seats will have
built up sufficient protection to be able to use unleaded continuously after
that. This seems to backed up by the number of people who have already replied
saying they use it without any problems.

However, consider this. If you use unleaded and it does cause valve-seat
recession, the only part of the car you are going to damage is the valve seats.
And since you'd replace them anyway if you were going to convert the car, you're
not really loosing anything by using unleaded without modifications.

If you don't want to risk this, though, most garages sell LRP already, or will
do shortly, but you might like to find an independant review of which LRPs
actually provide protection then commit to one that came out well.

On the topic of unleaded fuel, is anyone relatively confident that unleaded
petrol can be used with no detriment to the spit, as certain car magazines
state that it cannot be used.
