Although it has been rumored that there was actually an alloy bell
housing on early Spits, I think it is only a rumor. There were however
alloy housings on Heralds. In fact there were two types. One is
exactly as the Spitfire Iron casting and therefore is good. The other
is much thinner and therefore not so good. Unfortunately, the good one
is very rare and if you find two, let me know and I'll buy the other
one. I have one of the good ones on Huxley, the Mk1 with a 1500
engine! I don't want to take it off when I build my Tiny Time Race Car
project in the coming year!
