sounds like the problem 1 of our club members had with his auto choke, The spring inside sometimes loosen(spring not connected to arm) or the screws loosen up and will move the whole choke assmbly. I would start with that first. You can also switch to a manual choke conversion if all else fails. You didnot mention when the car goes to high idle when warmed does the car chug black smoke?
