the general premise of port matching is to get all the plumbing
perfectly matched as far as sizes go. That is to say...
if your intake manifold port is 1.4" x 1.125" and
you head port opening is 1.345" x 1.25" you would want to
grind out 0.055" off of the inside surface of the intake port
to 'match' the size. Smooth surfaces...alll the same dimension
are imperative to smooth out tubulence of the air flow.
You also want to 'match' all the ports so all flows would be tha same.
The URL listed above (even though it's a sales pitch for their DYI kit)
does a good job at describing the process.

Subject: [Triumphcars] what is port matching?
From: Douglas Frank <frank@zk3.dec.com>
A while back someone mentioned port matching in the context of improving an
intake header. What does it mean?
thx
