At least on the older models... (and most MG's) the best and simplest
theft protection... is an electric fuel pump.
On the MG's... the O/D'less cars, wire the electric fuel pump through
the stalk switch. Who would think the stalk even moves.
Yeah... the car will start, but only drive as far as the float bowl full
of fuel will take them. That usually get's them out onto a main road...
the car dies, and the cops stop to help. and end up nailing them.

Another ...for the Spits... is the 3 terminal oil pressure switch.
It was tied into the ignition. The car won't start....and will kill the
ignition,
if the oil pressure isn't up to snuff. An added switch here.... they'll never
figure it out

On any clutch car...disabling the starter ckt (IE: most car alarms) won't stop
'em
since you can push/jump start 'em.
You've got to kill the fuel supply, or ignition power.

I've (on passed cars) rewired my car alarm... you disable it to get in and
start it...
then once running... you have one minute to turn the alarm back on
or the ignition dies.

Open the door... and the engine dies. (Now a'days I guess that would be good
 for car jacking protection!)

Luckily anyone who tried to steal a Spitfire or other Triumph can be
easily found just a few blocks away when the carbs load up and flood or
when something falls off the engine. The police can track the car from
your oil stain on the pavement to wherever it sits then. :)
