Were these precautions adequate to ensure there won't be any problems, or is
there the chance I really screwed things up?

Don't what ever you do attempt to use them, it's not worth it!
These caipers are probebly beond saving, unless you can find a brake company
who will overhaull the halves for you. Thing is they need new special
bolts, and the correct torque settings. These are only available to
approved specialists. Thing is they can tell if a brake has been split, and
more than likely would not touch it because the could be liable if anything
goes wrong.
Maybe it's time for a GT6 front brake conversion. Or hunt the scrap yards
for some old calipers to chainge the rubbers.
