Hi all-
I hate to start this thread again but my car always seems to run hot (1/2 to
just over 3/4 on the gauge), although we have been having 90+ weather out
here in Connecticut.
All the obvious things are taken care of radiator, thermostat, timing, etc.,
the only thing I'm not sure of is the mixture on the carb. According to our
states emission readings I'm well within the "legal" limits. The car gets
hotter when I'm on the accelerator for a long period (3/4 on the gauge), as
in climbing a hill, but when I coast down the other side it cools off (back
to about 1/2). I don't think a properly operating cooling system should
react this way.
My thought is that maybe I'm a little lean on the mixture, does anyone think
that a richer mixture would help in this situation? How about bypassing the
water path through the manifold? Anyone ever diagnosed a "worn" water pump?
Maybe It's just time to buy and install that 21" core radiator.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!
