I am new to spitfires, and british cars in general. Having recently been
aquired by a 72 spitfire, I've been crash coursing on tracking down shorts,
replacing engine rubber, and becoming friends with this neat little machine.

My first calamity is the pool of gear lube I found under my dif last night,
which coincided with appearance of a rattle in the drive line (only when
settling into a speed, not under load). The front input shaft seal looks
good. My suspect seems to be the driver side junction with the axle.

Has anyone experience something similar? Any other "usual suspects" I
should investigate? What's the easiest way to access the dif plug to top
this off until I can get it somewhere with a rack to be properly addressed?

Thanks for any help.
