...sorry all... was reading mail from three different lists....
wrong answer to the wrong mail...
after idling for a while... a puff of black smoke is excess fuel burning off

..it sounds like at an idle you are pudding up fuel in the intake manifold.

the stumble is ...way too much fuel vs. air. when it finally ignites, it is only
partially burned, hence the high hydrocarbon emissions you can see
as black smoke out the exhaust.
